SingTel Plans LTE Trials in Australia, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore

SingTel (Singapore Telecommunications) recently revealed plans for 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) trials in Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Singapore, TMCnet reported on November 19. SingTel is expected to team up with regional telecom operators, including Optus of Australia, Globe Telecom of the Philippines, and Telkomsel of Indonesia, on the LTE trials, which are slated for commencement in the first half of 2010 and projected to last over a period of six to nine months. Equipment providers selected for the trials include Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Huawei, NEC, Nokia Siemens Networks, and ZTE. It is expected that LTE base stations and core network equipment will be installed for the field tests of LTE technology, covering the technological features and end-to-end performance in a wide range of scenarios and conditions.
